About the Authors
Colonel (Ret'd) Ronald J. Donovan was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, in 1938, and is a former member of the RCAF and Canadian Forces. His thirty-seven-year career included extensive national and international experience in police, security, and intelligence operations. Among many other positions, he served in NATO with Allied Forces Central Europe, was Director of the Canadian Forces School of Intelligence and Security, and the Canadian Defence Attaché to the former Soviet Union and Finland from 1989-91. Col. Dononvan is retired, has four children, and resides in Ottawa with his wife, Joan.
Lieutenant (Ret'd) Colonel David V. McElrea was born in Bradford, England, and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1963 as an Air Force Policeman. Over the following thirty-eight years, he gained experience in a variety of police, counter-intellligence, and security positions. Highlights included three years on secondment to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and thirteen years with the Special Investigation Unit, culminating in his promoiton to Lieutenant Colonel and appointment as its commanding officer. Lieutenant Colonel McElrea is retired and lives in Ottawa with his wife, Catherine.
